Why would we pay someone to watch Barbie movies?

For those who grew up in the 90s and 2000s, the original Barbie movies represent a nostalgic, simpler time. Were you were the Barbie buff who owned every iteration of the iconic doll and saw every movie? Or were you the annoying sibling who popped Barbie’s head off, but secretly loved the films? Either way, there’s no denying these cinematic gems hold a significant place in Millennial and Gen Z history.

With the recent wave of questionable nostalgia bait movies hitting cinemas (see: Space Jam: A New Legacy 😑), we thought this definitive ranking of the 16 original Barbie flicks would give us all a chance to see where it ranks among the classics.

Your mission

A winner will be selected on July 17, 2023. The winner will have seven days to watch and rank each of the Barbie films listed below. The ranking should include a brief analysis of each film. Once the ranking is submitted, the winner will receive $50 (ca. $66 CAD) for a trip to see Barbie in theatres. After seeing Barbie, the winner will let us know where the new movie stands in their ranking of the original 16 films. After successfully completing all steps, the winner will be paid $1,000 (ca. $1,325 CAD).
